Wentworth who spends much of the book kind of tortured. He's not being a sad sack though he is like sometimes exhibiting frustrations or some other feeling which Ann is never quite sure how to interpret because he's always loved and Elliot. She's shut down the relationship and he's out here trying to get married to maybe like make that feeling go away. And he blows up at one point when someone talks about marriage because he says now I have done when once married people begin to attack me with quote, Oh, you will think differently when you are married.
