In the fifth century, some roman catholic missionaries began making their way to ireland to try to convert them. Paganism was part of the old world er the now christian roman empire wanted to root out. The church soon realized that the celts wouldn't let go of tradition such as saan easily. People were really connected to those traditions. So if the church wanted people to embrace christianity, maybe christianity had to embrace some of what they believed.
