The heart is a slippery place. I think it's a prayer that every teacher ought to pray before they teach anything from god's word. We should have a grasp of the book as a whole before we get into its parts. What john says in first, john two is tied to what he said earlier in the first chapter and what he says later in chapter five. In order to actually articulate faithfully those two verses, i need to understand the whole.
