Life boat ethics is the idea that rich countries have limited seats in their life boat and should not help save others drowning in the sea. Hardin also argues that basically all nations have a specific so called carrying capacity. Such views have been very, very controversial. Some have described the life boat ethics argument as a clear case of advanced muddlement.
