The Conan Hyboria Cult

Conan is an uncivilized barbarian who plays by his own rules and when civilization can't resist the pull of these dark forces they have to bring this wild man from outside and outsider to come in and save them very often. He's not compromised in the way that let's say if you're the king and half of your half of your guards are either in the cult themselves or have family in the cult or have friends in the cult you start to lose effectiveness. Conan makes these really incredibly on the nose references to real existing historical deities that more or less line up with their actual initiatic practices. I think there's this fascinating hint at trans oceanic ancient contact and so he's
