Using Soil for Raised Beds

All soil is organic in that it has organic material in it. It can also be labelled organic, meaning there were not pesticides or anything used in it. You can add your own compose for your own steer manure and rock phosphate. Not all plants need two feet or more soil. Herbs and flowers need only about six to 12 inches of soil. Tomatoes have very shallow roots, but things like carrots or beets need that deep soil. If you don't want to stoop over and kill your back, you might want a higher bed.
