Is It Ok to Lie to Children About the Existence of Santa?

The standard argument against telling children about the existence of santa is that it's a lie. To me, this is trying to take the joy out. I think that there's something much more interesting going on in the case of santa. It points to something very profound in the nature of human beings and the world that we create for ourselves. We are making true when we create santa claus. So we're not lying, we're doing something else.
