The Rise of Biopolitics in the Age of Capitalism
I want to talk about real subsumption and its relationship to biopolitics and relationship to insecurity. We have this notion of insecurity, which is that we are separated from the means of our own reproduction,. therefore we have to enter into the market. So how do these two things work together? How does the insecurity that capitalism enforces work with this notion that we are being in some ways produced by, paradoxically, the state but also by the kind of wider social relations that needs us to function within it?' I suggest that the rise of biopolitics was a result of capitalism because capitalism installs such a fundamental insecurity at the basic level of life itself or the life of the population.
