The Origins of the Declaration of Independence
Jefferson's greatest contribution to the world was his authorship of the Declaration of Independence. He said nothing about being president of the United States. That was not as important or as noteworthy in his estimation as education, religious freedom and establishing the overall principles of a liberal society.
