Comets and planets appear almost equally bright in the night sky, but comets are only fiery balls that quickly pass away whereas planets retain their brightness perpetually. So too, hypocrisy and true virtue look very much alike, but it is easy to distinguish them from one another. It may perhaps be painful for you at first to relinquish the praise that your vanities have received from fools and flatters. But will you renounce eternal happiness for such deceptive follies?
