Herodotus's Account of the Battle of Marathon

According to Herodotus, the persians are caught guard by an army of more than ten thousand spearmen charging them at a run. The space between the two armies was about a mile. Historians have been tearing apart herodotus account of events ever since. But in many ways, we can't expect him to give us the sort of details that we need to invision what's really going on here.
