What Happens Next?

In Numbers 13, 1 and 2, we read Yahweh spoke to Moses saying, send men to spy out the land of Canaan. So it's the Lord's initiative that these guys are supposed to go in. And they're not going in with banners announcing, Hey, we're from the people of Israel and Yahweh is about to give us your land. They are going in at the Lord's instruction intending to deceive the people of the lands as to their purpose. The point was to go to a place where travelers often frequented a place where hopefully a foreigner would not be conspicuous.
