Kant and Schopenhauer's Metaphysics of the Enlightenment

Kant argues that man cannot know the world as such the numanon but only our representations of it which is the phenomenal world. While Kant formally rejects Platonism there's a sense in which he carries forward that same distinction between essence and appearance which is key to Platonism. It's for this reason that Schopenhauer when he comes along views Kant as perfectly reconcilable with the ideas of Plato  and why Nietzsche associates Kant with the deannissian wisdom comprised in concepts.
