The Law of Quia Emptoris
The law was a compromise between the major lords who couldn't collect their rents and labor services. The idea behind this law is that those long chains of lord-vassal relationships had become messy and unwieldy. This new law gave free peasants the right to sell and transfer their property as they pleased.
