Monumentalism Is Not Sedimentation
A monument is literally the ossification of some kind of ideal of the past. There's no such thing as a monument that changes, right? It becomes a sedimentary like recognition of something in the past. And then you come and you have to pay homage to it. I'm just thinking about whenw people re arguing about, can we take the civil war, the confederate monuments down? A lot of people aren't trying to live up to their creative ambitions because they're under too much pressure.
