In 2012, six years before he blew the whistle, Wiley was a law student at the London School of Economics. He sent a thesis proposal to the University of Cambridge with the goal of getting a PhD in psychology. In effect, Wiley was explaining that to convince people to vote, it was important to study their cognitive and behavioral processes. Years later, this is exactly what Cambridge Analytica would be promising its clients.
