Trees evolved roots 370 million years ago. The soil that they started beginning to form all by themselves was extremely leaky for phosphorus. So it ends up that landscape lost a ton of phosphorus as the soils took hold. It's probably about 10 million years where we have this repeated leakage events of phosphorus.
