The Body and the Book

Book is a physical object that we hold it in our hands, and then we interact with it with our eyes. It's an interesting thing in terms of size here and format that if you go back to the various very earliest can they form tablets. I was profoundly affected by a series of photographs that are artworks by Shiren Neshat who emigrated to New York after the Iranian revolution. She produced these images of young women but increasingly of all kinds of different people with script as it were seeming written across their faces. This made me think very, very strongly about how it is that we actually think of written text in some sense as a kind of alternative party. The most obvious example
