Introduction
The promise of economic well-being achieved through meritocratic means lies at the very heart of Western liberal economies. Students now graduating from universities along with school leavers increasingly find themselves facing a job marketplace in which there's a serious risk they will not be able to obtain the same status as their parents. How common is that kind of pessimism among young adults? And how might it be affecting their political attitudes? Well, our first guest knows the answer: Monica Muhlbach, visiting professor in political science at the University of Vienna.
