Is the Word Meaningless?
The word like does lots of different things. It can be used to signal that information is a little bit covert, or it's a litle bit hard to say. And i think the most criticism is that it's meaningless - just filler for people who don't know what they want to say. I think it's a kind of selective snobbery, really. After all, people have all kinds of ways to fill pauses or buy themselves time,. and sometimes overuse them.
