The Importance of Material Economy in Socialism

Bukharin said that unless a country has developed a certain level of head of the industry, then it can't have a socialist revolution. This was a highly deterministic reading of Marx's ideas and remained influential in the Second International. But these people were much less interested in ways in which Marx hoped these ideas could be put to use by people straining to take advantage of any opportunity to deal with capitalism.
