Painting in Color - The Midtones
With five values, you've got three is the midtone. You've got two on the light side and two on the dark side. But really, when you're painting in color, you can see a vast range. Paint has limitations and a five step value scale has a lot of limitations. So we're being forced to choose what we're going to do with the midtones.
