The Importance of Good Governance in Government
Australia has spent millions and millions of dollars on governance. All the projects are monitored and reported as being successful. But if you look at the macro indicators, world governance indicators don't register that much of an improvement. So quite what is missing? I think elites in the Pacific are alive like elites in Subson Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia. They like the parts of governance programs that deliver on their own interests and deliver to their supporters. It's impossible to generalize the needs of a governance program in Fiji are completely different to the needs of one in Papua New Guinea.
