The lung has a huge amount of surface area and it has a great blood flow. If the drug is too big as a molecule, it will just kind of get stuck on the wall of the trachea and bronchials in the way down. So there's not many drugs that you would give through the lungs. For babies, intermuscular is not as effective because they're not moving.
