A loaf of bread costs seven cents a pound of butter costs 36 cents a gallon of gas 15 cents apartment rental the average apartment ran for about seven dollars per month Can you imagine that James? I've lived in a few that were worth about seven dollars a month. The median house was around three thousand the median car around two thousand So you could picture all of these wonderfully low prices, but compare them to the fact that the average American was earning 20 cents an hour after taxes.
