Desaline wanted a huge list of crimes he could point to in order to justify what he was about to go due which was commit genicide. While they had no love for the whites collectively, on an individual or family level, there were numerous ties of kinship and friendship out there. And beyond personal connections, there's a pretty huge gulf between not liking the whites, hating the whites and then methodically arresting and killing unarmed civilians including women and children.
