The amount of carbon stored in the amazon is over 70 times greater than the annual us output of greenhouse gases. Destroying the amazon and releasing that amount of extra carbon into the atmosphere would utterly swamp everything society's been doing to reduce emissions. The brazila government is really a hero in terms of strategies for slowing deforestation. By two thousand and 12, deforestation had declined almost 80 % across the entire bBrazilian amazon. Phenomenal success.
