The Importance of More Levels in Navigation
You just don't want to have too many levels in your nav. There are a few exceptions to this that have to do with how extremely well known the actual items in that hierarchy are. It usually takes people who use screen readers four times as long to complete tasks, according to usability studies. When you have a deep and narrow navigation that jumps to eight times as long it is disproportionately worse for people who use certain kind of assistive devices.
