The Passion of Jesus Christ by J S Bach
The saint matthew passion by j s bach is the top thing in all western classical music. It mixes a an old tradition that came from the middle ages of telling the story of the passion based on scripture. Over time, during the mediaeval period, rather than just having one priest or celebrant tell the story, they started getting other people involved to take on the different parts. By the time bach and herited the form of the passiond they were also working in aspects of the reformation.
