The Government Shouldn't Back the Deposits, Right?
I think the government had to backstop deposits. It's crazy that we have this two tiered banking system where like, people are able to convert their deposits into a physical dollar. The physical dollar has no risk of ever being worth zero. In nominal terms, you know, one dollar bill is always a one dollar bill. Whereas in the banking system, your one dollar of deposits might not actually be worth one dollar.
