Virtualizing Time

How to Move a Guest to a New Host

The way I think of it is like a new, I call it effective time in my head, but basically like we have this relative point in time or where the guest TSC is relative to the host. The one thing you can take is the new host's current TSC for when the guest says now running on this new host,. And then we ship that over to the target host and then using those two pieces of data can reconstruct a new offset. It's not as simple as just doing that because there's also frequency differences involved. But yeah, it's hard to talk about this because there is a lot of math but having some formulas in front of you is helpful.
