There's an element with someone like Faulkner that it's itself aggrandizing, but he's also just interested in entertaining. He didn't come back and say, well, I'm a criminal and I escaped from prison or something. There's a quality of parlor theatrics in this period too, that I think is maybe a little loss to us now.
