Part One: The Dumbest Coup In World History

Behind the Bastards

CHAPTER

The Dogs of War by Frederick Forsyth

Fiction author Frederick Forsyth attempted to overthrow the government of equatorial guinea and then written a fictionalized account of his actions. The very next year he published another book called the dogs of war about a group of European mercenaries who carry out a coup against a brutal island dictator. His book bore a striking resemblance to all of the planning for the failed 1973 coup in Equatorial Guinea. He later admitted to an interviewer that he had in fact planned and failed to execute a coup to overthrow Macias.
