The Memorial to Enslaved Laborers
The memorial was designed to show the scale and scope of slavery in Washington, D.C., but also give a sense of how enslaved people lived there. The project had several challenges: It didn't even have a sight; it needed an archive that was incomplete. And so what we did was we for the four thousand there e marks, what we call memory marks, on the arc of the interior arc of the memorial am. 500 of those references are first names, mostly. We know a few first named, last named, probably about 15, 20 people, first named,. last name, um. For the three hundreds that you know that we have references to, which would typically be like
