Zapyrus and the Persian War Machine

The mutilated Zapyrus entered the confidence of the high priests and magistrates who ran Babylon. He offered them grim counsel: Our food is running low. You can't rebuff the Persian war machine if you can't feed your soldiers. The high priests took his advice and decided that the majority of the city's women would be put to death. It was a difficult decision, but necessary. At least this way, instead of being violated by foreigners, they would receive an honorable death from someone they knew.
