For Spurgeon what this meant is he had an incredibly strong or high view of God's sovereignty. He knew that all things, whether good or ill, nothing could touch his life unless it first passed through his father's hand. And so that was a very important way in which Spurgeon's suffering and his depression affected his ministry.
