The Importance of Finding Helpful Spirits

If you're seeking ancestral spirits, the rule of thumb is those who lived well and died well. The red flag is if the spirit is expecting you to do things that go against your moral values or core ethics. That's not a spirit guide. And when we're told, Oh, you better not call upon Hakata because she's dark. She's dark goddess and she will smite you just for the sake of doing it. I really think it's a patriarchal message that we've been fed to keep us at bay from working with these spirits.
