Bob Hatrack was the warden at Rawway State Prison, a tough maximum security prison. Inmates had staged a massive riot two years before Hatrack took over the job. After Hatrack, the prison offered vocational programs like barbershop training and auto mechanics. He got an idea to start a boxing program where inmates would train to become cut men, referees, cornermen, and boxers. For that, he needed a partner, and he knew James Scott was coming to Rawway.
