Hatoyama Kazuo and the First General Election
Hatoyama Kazuo was a former member of the Freedom in People's Rights movement. He ran for office as an independent after his mentor Okuma Shigenobu and Riken Kaishinto re-emerged, but only won 15 votes. The election turned out to be a big rebuke for the government at least in part because of the violence.
