The Origins of the Slavs in Eastern Europe
We don't know where the Slavs come from, we have too many answers. A lot of recent work led by a guy named Florin Kirta sees the emergence of the Slavs as something that happens along the edge of the Byzantine Empire. And that's a very counterintuitive theory because Romania is not Slavic speaking. So imagining that's where Slavs ethnogenesis happen runs against everything everyone has said before. But it is such a puzzle. It is such a unclear narrative.
