The Social Contract: A Pay It Forward Model
If a nation comes into being by consent, it's really unanimous consent or more likely an overwhelming majority. If you're in a numeric minority of 10%, how will you ever achieve anything over time when 90% of the people are going to vote in lockstep against you? Right. No mechanism by which you can revolt or leave and you don't, not reasonably anyway, you may be doomed to perpetual failure. And when you think about the social contract, it's interesting because I think the people who make the case most strenuously in favor of a social contract know that this is going on below the surface.
