In 1619, Jamestown only had 20 African slaves. So slavery was not going to be a thing that they used initially for labor exploitation. They would create these contracts where essentially, and again, these are averages, would sell a trip across the Atlantic for about five British pounds. Many of these laborers aren't even used to going onthese long journeys across the ocean.
