The Myth of Electronic Surveillance in the 1970s
There was a wide open market for this. It becomes regulated in the United States, this market for spying devices in 1968. What's interesting is that manufacturers of this equipment found really interesting ways to get around the federal government's ban. The first was they began legally selling their devices to law enforcement but also they start repurposing them. They began repackaging these bugging devices, almost detect a phone like devices as baby monitors in the 1970s.
