In 17 17, the king had issued a proclamation for the effectual suppression of piracy. He wanted to stop piracy by giving pirates a chance to be rdoned. So blackbeard gets his whole crew rip ringly drunk and deliberately crashes their ship into shoals in North Carolina. Then he goes inland and pleads with the governor of virginia - who gives him a pardon.
