The Proposal of Farnabasas
Sallais tells the story of Farnabasas, a Persian who fought alongside Sparta. He says he became a ksenos - guest friends with Spartan king Sallais. A gsalais offered to make him his own master if he would become their friend and ally. "We don't propose you become our subordinates," writes Sallais: 'Why not become your own master?'
