Medicaid and the Federal Government
Sally Kohn: Medicaid funding is split between states and the federal government that varies depending on what state you're looking at. She says one of the ways that states run these programs is often to sort of contract with a managed care organization, which is often like a health insurance company. Kohn: 72% of all people covered by Medicaid get their coverage through one of these managed care organizations. Of that 72%, about half of that is administered by just five companies, she says; Etna, United Health, Sentine, Molina, Elevance.
