The Importance of Listening to the Subjects of Data

We need to understand the problem because it's both about us designers deciding in a better way perhaps sometimes. And also as humans being resilient to all that information being thrown at us and understanding what the information really is truly saying. We can't stop incorrect facts but we can be better at understanding and learning when they aren't true. A little bit of empathy and humility is probably a good way to look at it as well.
