How to Track Richard III's DNA
Richard III didn't have any surviving children, did he? He can't have passed his mitochondrial or Y chromosome DNA down through the generation. This is much more unlikely to have happened by chance than if it was a common one. And similarly with the Y except that's passed down through the male line. But that immediately poses a problem. So this is where the genealogical research in comes in. Kevin Schur: How have we managed to track Richard's DNA given that he didn't pass it down? Obviously for the mitochondrial DNA you've got to look for a woman,. Only they can pass it down as her is just said.
