The west has adopted a much more cohesive, committed and indeed serious approach to the problems at hand than it did eight years ago. We often make the mistake in the west of thinking that putin is some kind of automaton, some kind of machine a. But like a lot of people, even the most calculating, the most cynical, they have some sort of cal beliefs. And belief in srapan slavism is very much part of a putin's emotional make up.
