Hugo really wanted like preservation of existing architecture to be more of a thing that was one of his agendas another of his agendas was like like republicanism instead of royalism which comes up a few times. Some of the stuff that led to Hugo having to live in exile for a period of time in the 50s and 6 1850s and 60s came out of the revolutions that would not take place for another 10 years after this book was written so some of his political beliefs that endure because of you know Les Mis are not part of where hunchback is coming from it is like he does still Victor Hugo.
We're dipping back in the Victor Hugo well this week with his other best-known book The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Did you know that the book and the Disney movie don't end the same way?
Also on tap: road trips, games of tag, revisiting the poverty question from last week, and talking about Hugo's views on architecture vs. the printing press.
